VW Golf GTI VI Street: Volkswagen Apprentices Build 301HP Study with Unique Mods

And the news just keeps on coming from the Worthersee GTI meeting in Austria. This time it's the new Golf GTI VI study that is the result of the collaborative work of five Volkswagen apprentices: Stefan Becker, 22, Mehmet Cosgun, 20, Saskia Müller, 20 and Michael Riefenberg, 19. Dubbed Golf GTI Street, the modified hot hatch features numerous mechanical and styling upgrades including a more powerful version of the 2.0-liter turbocharged engine that has been tweaked to deliver an output of 301 horsepower, up from the standard 2.0 TSI's 210 horsepower. The four-pot is hooked up to a six-speed manual transmission.

VW Golf GTI Street - CarscoopThe young apprentices sharpened the Golf GTI's handling by tuning the suspension that now comes with a hydraulic height adjustment feature while they also added a beefier brake system borrowed from the last Golf R32. The hatch now rides on a set of 19-inch BBS alloy wheels shod in 225/35 R19 Pirelli rubber.

Beyond the extra power and chassis tweaks, the Golf GTI Street features a two-tone black and white color theme with twin white rally stripes that extend over the bonnet, the roof and back to the rear, a modified front bumper, rear spoiler, tinted rear windows and a new exhaust system with twin tail pipes.

We don't have any photographs of the interior, but according to the German automaker, the GTI Street's interior has been enhanced with a full leather treatment while the apprentices also equipped the car with a new audio system plus an X-Box gaming console.

2011 Pontiac Firebird Trans AM by ASC: New Camaro-Based Proposal

Thursday, May 07, 2009 | 16 comments » Categories | , , , , ,

Pontiac's days may be numbered as General Motors plans to phase out the historic brand by the end of 2010, but that hasn't dampened ASC Creative Services' attempts to make a Trans Am version out of the all-new Chevy Camaro coupe. ASC has worked many times with General Motors in the past helping out in the creation and design development of cars like the 1987 Buick GNX, various Chevy SS models such as the HHR SS and Malibu SS, as well as the Cadillac STS-V and XLR-V sport cars just to mention a few.

2011 Pontiac Trans AM - CarscoopThe design and development firm's proposal for a Camaro-based Pontiac Trans Am is a fairly simply conversion that could easily lead to a custom-order production model. The changes include a new front fascia complete with unique head lights, twin-kidney grill inserts and restyled apron, a rear-facing hood shaker, new side skirts and alloy wheel designs plus rear-fender air vents. At the back the design proposes a new rear fascia with distinctive tail lights, boot spoiler and a specific apron housing new exhaust pipes.

While we don't have any photos of the interior, we gather that ASC would most likely limit the changes to the trim and seat options along with a revised instrument panel.

There's no information ASC's actual intentions on the car, but if you're really interested, you can send a mail to dave.byron (at) ascglobal.com for more information.

ABT SPORTSLINE AUDI R8 TUNING

Audi R8 Tuning
Many tuners are trying to modify those vehicles that look perfect also in their stock version. But some of them can produce very nice modifications that look even better than those stocks. And one of these companies is today’s ABT Sportsline.

This bodykit called Extravagant isn’t some coincidence. It was created to celebrate the 110th anniversary of ABT Sportsline. This long era is a strong proof that also small company can become powerful. So this product has to be more than perfect.

The tuner has focused on visual improvements of this beautiful machine. So it has prepared a visual kit including both bumpers, side sills and rear wing.

The front part has dominating front bumper with rib opening modified to have only one pair of ribs. Also air openings are covered with a honeycomb black grill.

There are tow pairs of spoilers in the front placed under the bumper with a diffuser between them. It’s available also in a carbon variation.

The side sills are visible on the car’s sides. Their fine rounded lines are very pleasing. They’re visually lowering the ride and bring some nice amount of extravagance.

There is also another tiny change – a pair of vertical openings for air intake to the engine.

The Audi R8’s rear part was heavily modified. The biggest change is the rear bumper with three new skewed openings. One of them is situated under the trunk including a big badge of ABT. It’s used as an off take for hot air from the engine area and remaining two openings are for hot air from brakes. They’re connected with an elegant rounded line.

We can find there also a big diffuser (carbon version available) coordinating air under the car. There are also interesting exhaust tips placed in the bumper’s corners. The best possible aerodynamics is provided by the sporting wing on the trunk.

ABT Sportsline did some nice job under the hood too. They’ve modified the V8’s ECU and installed a mechanical compressor to increase the power for 110hp and 120NM. So now we have the tuned Audi R8 offering 530hp and 550Nm of torque. This means 3.9 seconds to beat the 100 km/h and top speed of 317 km/h.

The higher performance needs the best suspension too – new ABT shock-absorbers, bigger and durable 380 mm brake discs and highlight in case of new rims – beautiful 5-spoke doubled rims (9x20 in front and 11x20 at the back). They have same color as the body and wears ultra low-profile tires.

First Look: Audi A3 TDI Clubsport Quattro Concept

By Kirill Ougarov

Audi likes to use the Lake Worther Tour, held annually in southern Austria at the end of May, as a place to show off some fresh ideas. Last year, the automaker brought out the radically styled TT Clubsport Concept. Bowing this year is the A3 Clubsport Concept, a rehash of the not-for-U.S. A3 three-door that would drive any Eurotuner green, or perhaps red, with envy.

First up is the business end. Under the hood is a clean, Euro 5-compliant 2.0L four-cylinder turbodiesel pumping out 224 hp and 332 lb-ft of torque, which propels the hatch to 62 mph in 6.6 seconds on to a top speed of 149 mph. The gearbox is a six-speed manual, and power is sent to all four wheels via Audi's famous quattro all-wheel-drive system.

Stopping power at the front comes courtesy of potent six-piston calipers gripping lightweight, carbon-carbide 14-inch discs. Strangely enough, however, Audi couldn't be bothered to upgrade the rear brakes, which are straight from the production model. At least the brakes aren't drums.

Audi also equipped with A3 Clubsport with a stiff sport suspension that reduces the ride height by 1.42 inches and fitted it with the automaker's drive select driving dynamics system and magnetic ride adaptive damper control to maximize handling when necessary and ride comfort when not.

Visually, the car's goal is simple: Get attention. This it accomplishes well, for better or worse. The white-and-red paint scheme is eye catching, especially the No. 8 on the side. It's also hard to miss the giant front grille that brings memories of the Q7 V12 TDI Concept from the 2007 Detroit Auto Show or the massive honeycombs in the lower fascia. The rear fascia features two giant exhaust pipes that Audi says generate a "sonorous soundtrack," and there's a DTM-style spoiler mounted on the rear window. Rounding out the exterior changes are flared doors and quarter panels, Xenon headlights with LED running lights, bolt-on wheelarch extensions, and 20-inch, 10-spoke wheels.

The interior didn't undergo the same radical transformation as the exterior. The most notable changes over the standard A3 are the racing-style sport bucket seats, TDI Power-badged illuminated door sills, aluminum shiftgate, and a flat-bottomed steering wheel. The door panels and floormats also have been redesigned.

The result is that the A3 Clubsport weighs in at 3252 lb, is 0.63 in. longer than a standard 166.85-in.-long three-door A3, sits 1.42 in. lower with a height of 54.53 in., and boasts a wider track -- 61.73/61.14 in. front/rear, increases of 1.34 and 1.81 in., respectively. And it would fit in perfectly parked at a funny angle at a late-night enthusiast meet.
